Darn, no Plastic Bags

Ferrets love any container full of items that crunch, rattle, bounce or crackle.  Case in point: my wastepaper bin full of crumpled up paper is just about the most wonderfully interesting thing on earth for Pig Warrior Ferret.

Pig checks my paper bin daily for updated material, like new pieces of paper thrown on top (yes, she knows), or joy bits of plastic.  If there is any plastic in the bin, that’s a huge bonus for Pig because she thinks it makes a great snack.  Therefore, I have to always remember to only put paper in there.

She climbs up the side, aided by the mesh holes.  At first she doesn’t go all the way in but rather hooks her hind feet in the holes and lowers her head down in to investigate.  After one or two seconds of pre-checking, she slides in and starts lolling about in the papers.  She writhes around in a kind of ferret ecstasy state, rubbing the papers on her back, face and head.  If you can imagine a corny movie where someone wins the lottery or otherwise comes into a big windfall and then rolls around in the cash money, well that’s Pig in her paper bin.

When Pig was young, she was so big and aggressive we actually thought for a day or two the pet store was mistaken and she was really a male ferret.  Pig bounded everywhere she went and loved to play fight.  She also thumped her tail, which we read was a male behavior.  What she lacked in concentration and booksmarts, she made up for in pure warrior strength.

What’s this about tail thumping, you say?  I’d never seen it until Pig came along.  We have long mailing tubes which ferrets just love to scurry into when play fighting.  Pig will sit inside a tube when being chased by humans, and vibrate her tail back and forth.  It makes a thumping sound, and according to what we read, this is male behavior.  Pig is our little Amazon Warrior Ferret!

Pig isn’t afraid of anything, even though she now lives with two adults and two male ferrets who are of course twice as large as she is.  She attacks them all, full on, nothing held back.  She is unrelentless and thorough in her mission to sublimate every member of the household.  When Pig, Warrior Ferret gets worked up, everyone watch out!
