		<description>You CAN ferret proof a couch.... kind of.  The number one thing, is to replace the fabric cover over the bottom with something a bit sturdier.  I prefer the thin, coated hardboard, that I can staple on, but even something like canvas or poly tarps would work.  You do need to inspect it regulary.</description>

Specific to this post- Alas, we have given up on real couches, though I&#039;ve heard it can be done (perhaps some sort of kevlar material welded to the bottom?) and have been going the futon route instead. Along with recliners, it was a sacrifice we were willing to make.

When I was a teenager and had no control over furniture choices, we had a devilish little beast of a ferret who thought the best game EVER was to sneak into the couch and bite my father&#039;s butt when he sat on it. Needless to say this did not make him very fond of my pet, but the strange thing was that she didn&#039;t bite anyone else&#039;s butt. I think it was some sort of power play. The ferret eventually won, of course!</description>
